JOIN Supports the Urban Development Project – Bangkok Sathorn Project – in Thailand

Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN, headquartered in Tokyo, President & CEO: Tatsuhiko Takesada) received approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism following its decision to invest up to approximately JPY 4.4 billion to participate in the urban development project – Bangkok Sathorn Project – in Thailand jointly with Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd. (Nishimatsu, headquartered in Tokyo, Representative Director and President: Nobutoshi Takase) and Fuyo General Lease Co., Ltd. (Fuyo Lease, headquartered in Tokyo, President and CEO: Yasunori Tsujita).

This project constructs and manages a hotel in the Sathorn district, a major office area in the center of Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, where many companies including Japanese companies and embassies of various countries have their bases. JOIN will support Nishimatsu that will be taking a lead in the full-scale overseas urban development project.

In this project, the hotel will be managed by Okura Nikko Hotel Management Co., Ltd. (ONHM, headquartered in Tokyo, Representative Director of the Board, President: Toshihiro Ogita), which is a subsidiary of Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Tokyo, President, Representative Director: Toshihiro Ogita). To mitigate the damage from the flood caused by torrential rains, a water retention tank will be installed in the basement of this project. In cooperation with Sathorn District, evacuation drills will be carried out, emergency storage will be set up in the hotel, and the area will be used as a temporary safety evacuation site in case of disaster. In Bangkok, which is vulnerable to floods, the hotel will introduce tangible and intangible disaster measurements adopted in Japan to ensure the safety of hotel users and improve the resilience of the district, and the Sathorn District Officewelcomes these initiatives. In addition, the exterior and the rooftop of the building will be facilitated with greenery to contribute to the landscape improvement and the environment such as climate change countermeasures.

This project will accelerate Japan’s priority policy on its contribution to resolving social issues and achieving SDGs in partner countries stated in the Japanese government's "Infrastructure System Overseas Promotion Strategy 2025" (formulated at the Ministerial Meeting on Strategy relating Infrastructure Export and Economic Cooperation on December 10, 2020).
