JOIN Supports the Development of Global Unmanned Traffic Management System

 Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN) announces its decision and receipt of approval from the Minister of the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, to acquire shares of Unifly N.V. (Unifly), the Belgium based world’s leading provider of the Unmanned aircraft system Traffic Management (UTM) system, together with Japan’s industrial drone solution company Terra Drone Corporation (Terra Drone).

 Through this investment, JOIN and Terra Drone intend to support the development of UTM system which enable safe and efficient drone and aircraft flight management. This project marks JOIN’s first investment in the drone industry and is expected to contribute to the objectives of the Japanese Government’s “Infrastructure System Overseas Promotion Strategy 2025”, under its concrete pillars “Promote the Use of Digital Technologies/Data.”

 Founded in 2015, Unify has been recognized as one of the top UTM system providers by not only winning 8 national level contracts including NAV Canada, Canadian air navigation service provider (ANSP), but also by inviting German ANSP, Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, as one of its shareholders Utilizing Terra Drone’s knowledge and network, Unifly intends to introduce UTM system worldwide.

 With this investment , JOIN expects to contribut e to the realization of safe and secure aircraft, airport and port operations and enhancemen t of drone operation management. Through its equity participation in Unifly, JOIN aims to support the expansion of the use of drones in wide range of fields and further build its growth in the drone industry.
