JOIN Supports the Mega Containership Charter Project

Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport & Urban Development (JOIN) announces its decision and receipt of approval from the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism to invest up to approximately JPY 42 billion to participate in the Mega Containership Charter Project jointly with Shoei Kisen Kaisha, LTD (Shoei Kisen).

The project encompasses owning two 24,000TEU mega containerships jointly with Shoei Kisen and bare chartering the ships to Shoei Kisen’s subsidiary. JOIN supports Shoei Kisen to enter this project which is the first shipping project for JOIN.

Through this project, JOIN will provide a Japan made state-of-the-art container ships that maximize cargo load capacity, minimize fuel consumption and contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of marine container transportation. JOIN also aims support Japan’s priority policies such as the " Infrastructure System Overseas Promotion Strategy 2025" and "Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Infrastructure System Overseas Expansion Action Plan 2022" by contributing to the enhancement of the competitiveness of Japanese shipping businesses through this project.
